CM MK Stalin officially opens Tata’s manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, and takes the inaugural drive in the first Range Rover Evoque.
The Chief Minister operated the initial vehicle with Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran seated next to him, driving her for a certain distance at the manufacturing site situated in the SIPCOT complex, approximately 90 km from Chennai.
The facility, covering an area of 470 acres, is the first of its kind in the country to produce JLR luxury models.
The MoU for the Rs 9,000 crore facility was executed in March 2024, with the foundation stone being laid in September of the same year. Subsequently, the first vehicle was produced in the second week of February this year at the JLR factory, marking a significant advancement in the “Make in Tamil Nadu” initiative.
The plant is expected to create direct employment opportunities for 5,000 individuals, as stated by Industries Minister TRB Rajaa.

Tata Motors described the initiative as a crucial advancement in fostering indigenous manufacturing (Make in India, For the World), featuring its state-of-the-art production facility dedicated to the manufacture of cars and SUVs.
The greenfield facility located in Panapakkam is set to manufacture next-generation vehicles for Tata Motors and JLR. According to the company, this globally benchmarked plant will meet the needs of both domestic and international markets.
